Last year at a school-based health check up, Mont Fleuri school student, Bercina (photo left), had her vision evaluated by CCH education volunteers. It was evident that she had trouble seeing and she was identified for follow-up care with CCH volunteer Ophthalmologist, Dr. Nancy Eisele.

When Dr. Eisele’s team came to Haiti in November 2018, we ensured the follow up was done and after a thorough consult Bercina was finally prescribed glasses. And thanks to the Lions Club’s generous donation of eyeglasses, she got the glasses she needed and is so delighted to finally see clearly now!

Dr. Eisele also performed eye surgeries for patients like Mr. Hypolittle (photo right). He was suffering with a cataract blocking vision in his one good eye. In Haiti, access to this surgery is rare, and though it only took Dr. Eisele’s two hands to restore vision for Mr. Hypolittle, it took MANY hands to make that surgery possible.

Until now, CCH had no equipment available to perform cataract removal surgery. Thanks to the many hands that donated equipment, loaded a container and prayed over its safe arrival, our new Jim Wilmot Surgical Center is fully equipped to perform this life transforming surgery.

We are always looking for Ophthalmologists to volunteer their time in our new facility since there is a tremendous need for this specialty in Haiti.
