Film Synopsis: This film retraces the history of Haiti’s debt in order to understand the spiral of borrowing that stunted the country’s development. Who profited from this debt? Has Haiti been plundered since its birth—by foreign powers, international banks, and its own leaders? And what role did France play in this history?

Filmmaker Biography: Wandrille Lanos has been a documentary filmmaker for over ten years. He began his career at the CAPA agency, directing reports for Canal+ and France 2. He worked for four years with the investigative program Cash Investigation (France 2), and from 2015 to 2018, he was a reporter for the editorial team of Envoyé Spécial. His investigations and reports have taken him to the paths of unaccompanied migrant minors in Europe, aboard illegal fishing vessels off the coast of West Africa, and into the Amazon rainforest, where he documented Indigenous communities confronting oil giant Chevron.
